What is Subtraction

The process opposite to the process of Addition is called subtraction. When a number or digit is subtracted from another number or digit, it is called subtraction.

Subtraction is shown by sign.

Example :-

  • 10 – 4 = 6

  • 30 – 7 = 23
  • 40 – 12 = 28
  • 50 – 25 = 25

Subtraction Question

Q.1 Subtract the following 20 – 6 – 4 – 2?
A.12
B.14
C.6
D.8

Solution: 20 – 8 – 4 – 2
= 20 – 12
Ans. 8

Q.2 Solve √128 – √60 – √121 – __?
A.11
B.21
C.36
D.7

Solution: = √128 – √60 – √121
= √128 – √60 – 11
= √128 – √49
= √128 – 7
= √121
= 11
Ans. 11

Q.3 One fourth of one third of a number is 24. What is this number?
A. 250
B. 287
C. 288
D. 300

Solution: Let the desired number be X.
Then 1/3 × 1/4 × X = 24
X = 24 × 3 × 4
X = 288
Ans. 288

Q.4 In three positive numbers, the product of first and second is 42, second and third is 56 and third and first is 48. What is the third number accordingly?
A.12
B.6
C.7
D.8

Solution:- Let the three numbers be a, b, c
a × b = 42 = 6 × 7
b × c = 56 = 7 × 8
c × a = 48 = 8 × 6
Thus, a × b × c = 6 × 7 × 8
Ans. 8

Q.5 The sum of two numbers is 8060. If one of the numbers is 5256. Then find the other number.
A.2,804
B.4,890
C.6,345
D.3,987

Solution:- According to the question,
Sum of two numbers = 8060
