Division

On this page, you will learn to solve the questions of division, then definitely read the article completely.

On the previous page, we have shared the posts of Addition and Subtraction, so read those posts as well.

Let us learn and understand how to solve division today.

What are The Division

The process opposite to the process of multiplication is called division. When a number or digit is subtracted from a Number or Digit more than once, it is called division.

Number or digit is divided as many times as it is divided. Division is represented by the symbol (/ or ÷).

Example :-

  • 4 ÷ 2 = 2
  • 20 ÷ 4 = 5
  • 50 ÷ 10 = 5
  • 100 ÷ 5 = 20

Division Formulas

  • Dividend = (Divisor × Quotient) + Remainder
  • Dividend – Remainder = Divisor × Quotient
  • Dividend – remainder / quotient = divisor

Division Questions

Q.1 Find the least number which when divided by 9, 11, 13 leaves remainder 1, 3, 5 respectively?
A.1250
B.1260
C.1270
D.1280

Solution : According to question,
9 – 1, 11 – 3, 13 – 5
8, 8, 8
Hence LCM of 9, 11, 13 = 1258
So 1258 – 8
Ans. 1250

Q.2 What is the largest 5 digit number which is exactly divisible by 137?
A.99854
B.99873
C.99898
D.99846

Solution:- Largest 5 digit number = 99999
If 99999 is divided by 137, the remainder is 126.
Hence, required number = 99999 – 126
Ans. 99873

Q.3 In a division question, the quotient is 403 and if the divisor is 100 and the remainder is 58, then what is the dividend?
A.40338
B.40338
C.40348
D.40358

Solution: Dividend = (Divisor × Quotient) + Remainder
= (100 × 403) + 58
= 40300 + 58
Ans. 40358

Q.4 A number multiplied by 2 is added to 16, the sum obtained is divided by 2 and then the original number is subtracted from the quotient obtained, then what is the remainder?
A.8
B.6
C.7
D.8

Solution : Let the original number be x
According to Question,
= x + 8
x + 8 – x = 8 (remainder)
Ans. 8

Q.5 If 2/7th of a number is 18, then what will be one third of that number?
A.19
B.21
C.23
D.25

Solution: Let the number be x.
2/7x = 18
x = (18 × 7 / 2)
x = 63
63 × 1/3
Ans. 21

Q.6 In a division problem, the quotient, dividend and remainder are 15, 940 and 25 respectively. What are the denominators?
A.31
B.50
C.60
D.61

Solution:- According to the question,
divisor = (dividend – remainder)/quotient
Divisor = (940 – 25)/15
Divisor = 915/15
divisor = 61
Answer:- 61

Q.7 On dividing 7765 by a number, the quotient is 45 and the remainder is 25. What are the denominators?
A.165
B.172
C.175
D.180

Solution:- According to the question,
divisor = (dividend – remainder)/quotient
Divisor = (7765 – 25)/45
Divisor = 7740/45
denominator = 172
Answer:- 172

Q.8 In a division, the divisor is 12 times the quotient and 5 times the remainder. If the remainder is 48, are they divisible by?
A.240
B.576
C.4800
D.4848

Solution:- According to the question,
divisor = 5 × remainder
Divisor = 5 × 48
divisor = 240
Quotient = 240/12
Quotient = 20
Dividend = Divisor × Quotient + Remainder
Dividend = 240 × 20 + 48
Dividend = 4800 + 48
Dividend = 4848
Answer:- 4848

Q.9 A number is attended by 4, 5 and 6 alternately and the remainder is 2, 3 and 5 respectively. If the number in the last part 7 is
A 238
B 476
c 954
D 1908

Solution:- According to the question,
Number divided by 6 = 6 × 7 + 5 = 47
Number divided by 5 = 47 × 5 + 3 = 238
Number divided by 4 = 238 × 4 + 2 = 954
Answer:- 954

Q.10 If the cost of 3 fans is Rs 990, then what is the cost of one fan?
A.110
B.330
C.660
D.990

Solution:- According to the question,
Cost of 3 fans = 990
Cost of 1 fan = 990/3
= 330
Ans. 330
