What is Subtraction
The process opposite to the process of addition is called subtraction. When a number or digit is subtracted from another Number or Digit, it is called subtraction.
Subtraction is shown by – sign.

- 40 – 12 = 28

Q.6 A water tank contains 8000 buckets of water. Out of this, 3456 buckets of water were used by the people of the village. How many buckets of water remained in the tank?

Solution:- According to the question,
Water in tank = 8000 buckets
Water used by the villagers = 3456 buckets
Remaining water in the tank = 8000 – 3456
= 4,544 buckets of water
Hence, there will be 4,544 buckets of water left in the tank.
Q.7 The sum of two numbers is 8060. If one of the numbers is 5256. Then find the other number.
A.2,804
B.4,890
C.6,345
D.3,987
Solution:- According to the question,
Sum of two numbers = 8060
first number = 5256
Second number = 8060 – 5256
= 2,804
Hence the second number will be 2,804.
Q.8 There were 10000 bags of wheat in a godown, out of which Manohar bought 5000 bags of wheat and Imran bought 2000 bags of wheat. Tell how many sacks of wheat are left in the godown.
A.2000
B.3000
C.5000
D.7000
Solution:- According to the question,
Wheat in a godown = 9000 bags
Manohar bought wheat = 3070 bags
Imran bought wheat = 3950 bags
Total wheat bought by both = (5000 + 2000) bags
= 7000 bags
Remaining wheat in godown = (10000 – 7000) bags
= 3000
Hence, 3000 bags of wheat are left in the godown.
