Let us today learn and understand how to solve the problems of addition, subtraction, **multiplication** and **division** of decimals.

## What is Called Decimal

Decimal is a small symbol which is obtained by dividing any **number**.

Decimals are represented by ( . ).

**For Example :** If you divide 25 by 10, then put the decimal sign (.) one **Digit** before the right side of the number.

**Example :**

- 25 ÷ 10 = 2.5
- 35 ÷ 100 = 0.35
- 48 ÷ 1000 = 0.048
- 54 ÷ 10,000 = 0.0054

Multiples of ten = 100, 1000, 10000, 100000

**Adding Decimals :-**

Before solving this type of questions, the Decimal places of all the numbers are equalized. Then we add it using the simple rule of addition.

**Subtracting Decimals :-**

To solve these types of questions, first subtract the numbers after the decimal.

That is, we start subtracting from the units Digit numbers and then subtract the numbers before the decimal point.

The answer obtained is written in numbers according to the given decimal.

**Multiplication of Decimals :-**

To multiply decimal numbers, write the number with more digits above the number with less digits.

**Like:-** Suppose you have to multiply 0.52 by 0.04. So you just need t6o write one decimal number below the other decimal number.

When you multiply numbers, you can write the answer by drawing a line below the numbers.

**Decimals Fraction :-**

Before dividing decimal numbers, let us see how many digits in the dividend have decimal points before them.

And how many digits are there before the decimal point in the divisor? Learn to differentiate between the two.

If the number of decimal digits of the dividend is more than the number of decimal digits of the divisor, then the decimal point is placed in the quotient by leaving digits equal to the difference of the two from right to left.

Similarly, if the number of decimal digits of the divisor is more, then zero equal to their difference is put in the quotient (right side).

Expression = (a² + b²) / (a² – ab + b²)

= (a + b)

a = 0.5, b = 0.6
