Real Numbers (Definition, Properties and Examples)

Real Numbers

On this page you will get the Real Numbers Information. So definitely read the post completely.

On the previous page, I have shared information about Composite Number, Co Prime Number, so you can get all the information by reading those posts.

Let us read and Understand the Information on Real Number on this Page.

What are Real Numbers

Real Number are obtained by writing all Rational Number and irrational number together.

For example :- √3, 2/5, √15, 4/11, 7/12, 15/17

Real number are denoted by R.

Types of Real Numbers

There are two types of real number.

  1. Positive Real Number
  2. Negative Real Number

1. Positive Real Number

Positive Real Number are those Number whose value is positive are called positive real number. That is, positive real number are preceded by a positive sign.

Example : 7/12, 11/13, 124, 1228, 2456

2. Negative Real Number

Real number whose value is negative are called negative real number. That is, a negative sign is placed in front of negative real number.

Example : -7/12, -17/5, -128, -3864, 23/-19

Properties of Real Number

There are four properties of real number.

1. Closed Property

When two real number are added or multiplied, we get a real number. This property of real number is called the closure property.

2. Commutative Property

Adding or multiplying two real number in any complex order gives us the same number of real number. This property of real number is called commutative property.

3. Associative Properties

The same answer is obtained when the group of three real number is changed and added or multiplied. This property of rational number is called associative property.

4. Distribution Properties

If a problem is solved in different ways by using the distributive property, using the distributive method of addition on multiplication or the distributive method of subtraction on multiplication, then the solution will be the same.

Hence this property is called the distributive property of real number.

FAQ

Q.1 What is the definition of a real number?

Ans. What are Real Numbers in Math? Real numbers include rational numbers like positive and negative integers, fractions, and irrational numbers. In other words, any number that we can think of, except complex numbers, is a real number.

For example, 3, 0, 1.5, 3/2, √5, and so on are real numbers.

Q.2 Why is zero a real number?

Ans. Yes! Zero is a real number because it is an integer. Integers include all negative number, positive number, and zero. Real number include integers as well as fractions and decimals.

Q.3 Is a real number symbol?

Ans. R = real number, Z = Integers, N=Natural Number, Q = Rational Number, P = Irrational Number.

Q.4 What are examples of real number?

Ans. Real number include rational number like positive and negative integers, fractions, and irrational number. In other words, any number that we can think of, except complex number, is a real number. For example, 3, 0, 1.5, 3/2, √5, and so on are real number.
